At CCV, we are committed to keeping you informed about important updates that may impact your business. Recently, significant changes have been announced regarding the payment options GiroPay and SOFORT, primarily used by German customers.
GiroPay Update
In July 2023, GiroPay unexpectedly discontinued the version that CCV had implemented. We had planned to integrate a newer version of GiroPay; however, recent news has revealed that German banks will abandon GiroPay altogether. Consequently, CCV has cancelled its plans to integrate the new version of GiroPay.
SOFORT Update
Since Klarna acquired SOFORT in 2014, it has been available as a separate payment method alongside Klarna’s "Pay Now" option. However, in 2023, Klarna announced plans to discontinue the SOFORT payment brand. By mid-2024, Klarna confirmed that SOFORT would cease to function by the end of 2024. Therefore, CCV will remove SOFORT once it is deprecated by Klarna, scheduled for December 2024.
Looking Ahead
We advise our customers to consider alternative payment methods due to these changes. While Klarna promotes its "Pay Now" option, we expect many German customers to switch to widely accepted payment brands such as PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and credit cards from Mastercard and Visa.
