EV Charging & Payment Trends – Key Takeaways from the Nordic EV Summit 2025

Interview title and portrait of Maria and Pieter

Curious about what’s next in EV charging and payments?

Maria and Pieter share what stood out at this year’s summit in Oslo.

The Nordic EV Summit 2025 brought together industry leaders, innovators, and experts in Oslo to shape the future of e-mobility. CCV was there with a dedicated team and booth presence to showcase our solutions – but also to listen, learn, and connect.

We spoke with Maria, Director Sales & Sales Lead Mobility, and Pieter, Product Manager EVC Payments, to get their top takeaways from the event – from evolving business models to the future of payment technology in EV charging.

What were the standout trends at Nordic EV Summit 2025? Is there one thing you would like to highlight?

Maria: The focus is shifting from the number of chargers and locations to optimizing operational efficiency and customer experience.

Pieter: Indeed, the Nordic countries have already advanced quite far in EV driving and charging, but there is still a need to optimize and simplify the services provided in this market.

Out of these trends, what was your biggest insight from networking at these events?

Maria: There is still a long way to go, and the market needs flexible and easy solutions for both existing and new infrastructure.

How do these trends align with CCV’s vision for EV Charging payments?

Maria: CCV's payment solutions bring flexibility by being cloud-connected. As a CPO, you can easily maintain a uniform payment solution across Europe, even with different chargers. This supports operational efficiency and improves the customer experience by offering the same experience everywhere.

Pieter, do you have any advice for EV Charging businesses looking to future-proof their payment solutions?

Pieter: We certainly see cloud-based payment integration as the future. As my colleague Maria said, we need a uniform cross-country solution so operators and manufacturers don’t have to spend too much time thinking about payments. That’s why we specifically designed our cloud-based payment solution based on OCPI - a roaming protocol developed for EV charging, now also supporting bank card payments through its direct payment module.

What are some of the biggest product challenges you see in EV charging payments today?

Pieter: Price transparency has been a challenge for a long time and continues to be one. EV drivers, of course, want to know what they will pay for a charging session. We've now solved that for bank card payments by displaying the tariff on the payment terminal, but we also see a growing need for fully dynamic pricing, where costs can change during an active charging session. While we do have a solution for that, it naturally makes the customer journey more complex. The idea of a service where the cost changes during its use is difficult to reconcile with a simple, intuitive end-user experience—especially when the user isn’t present when the price changes.

From a product development perspective, how is CCV preparing for what’s next in EV charging?

Pieter: With Cloud Connect EVC, we now offer a simple-to-integrate, cloud-based payment solution, but we’re constantly in discussion with operators and manufacturers on how to further improve the experience. We definitely have some exciting upgrades planned over the next six months that will benefit multiple stakeholders. Stay tuned!

How can CCV contribute to a successful future in EV Charging?

Maria: CCV can contribute to a successful future in EV charging by keeping the focus on products and processes that are flexible and adaptable, ensuring we can meet the evolving needs of the market and provide seamless, scalable solutions.

Conclusion

The Nordic EV Summit made it clear: the future of EV charging is fast, flexible, and full of opportunity – especially when payments are seamless. At CCV, we're here to help you get there.
