Significant development to improve the EV charging experience

Au i. d. Hallertau/Germany, 24 May 2023 – CCV GmbH, a leading provider of payment solutions, and Bender Group, the market leader with their charging controllers in the electric vehicle (EV) charging industry, will work together on implementing open payment terminals in EV- charging stations across Europe. This collaboration is a significant development for the EV charging market which requires stations with integrated open-loop payment solutions. CCV has won the tender of Bender Group, and ebee smart technologies, a subsidiary of Bender Group, is responsible for the implementation. CCV and Bender expect to install around 300,000 payment terminals within Europe over the next few years – including the UK.

“We are excited to work with Bender on this important initiative to improve the EV charging experience,” says John Kolthof, CCO of CCV GmbH. “We believe that open payments are key to the future of EV charging, and we are committed to delivering the best payment solutions to our customers.”

“We have chosen CCV not only because of their extensive experience in the payment market but also because they provide the full-service payment package, from developing the payment solution to transaction processing as well as supplying the hardware and value-added services,” explains Frank Mehling, Business Development eMobility at Bender. “We want to provide a seamless and hassle-free experience for EV drivers in Europe, and CCV is the right partner for us to support this goal.”

The payment terminals (CCV Edge IM15) will be integrated with the charge controller developed by Bender and thereafter offered as a complete payment solution via the charge point manufacturers to EV charge point operators. This will make it easy for EV drivers to pay as the terminal supports contactless payments, including PIN on Glass and e-receipts. There is no subscription, charging pass or token needed. The charge controller will also be equipped with efficient charging and load management tools to ensure sustainable and cost-effective charging.

The tender and complete process was led by PaymentGenes, a global consultancy and talent acquisition organisation that accelerates growth in the fast-paced payments and FinTech industry. Ward Hagenaar, Head of Consulting at PaymentGenes, says: “At PaymentGenes, we are passionate about supporting the future of payment and bringing together organisations in the mobility area. We are very delighted about the partnership of CCV and Bender. A big step forward in supporting the further growth of EV charging solutions.”
